History | In
service with the German Army from 1944 to 1945. The first 50 were fitted with
the Porsche turret. Subsequent King Tigers were fitted with the simpler Henschel
turret which also offered better protection. The King Tiger was the heaviest and
most powerful tank to go into production during World War II. An estimated 484
in total were completed. Because of its size and weight, it lacks mobility. But
when deployed properly in small groups, it proved very effective and could engage
many more times its own numbers of enemy with some outstanding successes. |
